Pop Go the PUMAs

Heard of the PUMAs?, the Clintton supporters who were so pissed off at Obama that they decided to vote for McCain?

They’re Swiftboats. Republican dirty tricks.

They debuted on Fox and were snapped up eagerly by every other corporate media outlet, who’d already bought into the Republican narrative that the Democrats were irreparably divided.

Darragh C Murphy, founder of the PUMAs, never gave as nickel to Hillary, but gave $500 to McCain and gave her name to the PAC that launched this Republican lie.

That’s because all you ladies are way to emotional and far too stupid to figure out what McCain has voted to do for and to women over the years and what he’s promised to do if he’s elected.

Thanks to Amanda Marcotte for getting the goods on this liar and to Lindsey Beyerstein and her commentors for following up and finding more astroturf sites that were probably set up by Republican operatives that are spreading this lie.

And obtw, what I expect women to do this November is, one by one, learn about the candidates and what they stand for and make up their own minds and vote for the candidate they think will be best for America, or, failing that, vote against the candidates they think will be nightmares for America. Just like always.

    Hello?

I would be VERY careful about throwing shit like THAT around. You think women haven’t heard, time and again, like a broken record, that we’re “too emotional,” much less stupid? I think what the Clinton supporters voting for McCain are doing is misguided, but this statement from you comes off as nothing short of misogynist.

Are there actual PUMAs? Sure. Why not? But the sites Amanda and Lindsay and their commenters found peg my bogometer.

I certainly hope you didn’t disappear my comment calling out your sexist language.

One more reason, Bob, that a good narrative is not a good way to truth.

Amber, I stand corrected. I don’t do mocking tone of voice well. And I’m even worse at avoiding sounding like misogynist assholes when I happen to agree with them about other things they’ve said that don’t have to do with sexism and misogyny. I don’t know how people could have borne up under the tons of crap Kos and others were flinging at Hillary. I caught some of it myself for supporting her, and a couple of times I lost it at some dear friends.

I think people have perfectly good reasons for voting for anybody they damn well want to. I think McCain’s record is a horrible on all kinds of scores. And if I have time to think about it, the whole idea of women or anybody else being guided, much less misguided, kinda pisses me off.

Saying I didn’t mean it that way don’t cut it. I wrote it and I was wrong. I’m sorry.

And obtw, fucking Wordpress put both your comments into an approval queue, and I just now managed to retrieve them.
