Obama Confirms Libya War to Continue – But Will He Ever Ask Congress? — News from Antiwar.com.
Clinton used cruise missiles. He would have used drones if he’d had them. Bush had them but seldom used them. Bush wanted Christian boots on the ground conquering and torturing people for Jesus.

Budget Statement – Who We Are | The Planetary Society.
This may be temporary bad news for Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, but they’re good at coping, and if they exercise their imaginations toward a more sustainable vision of space flight, Huntsville’s future could be even brighter when it’s freed of the boom and bust cycles of military-industrial economy.
To no one’s surprise, Alabama Republican Congressional candidate Loony Les Phillip called the NASA budget increase a “cut” and called it “un-American.”

We need to stay sober and stop cheerleading for the Democrats and for the Obama White House just because they’re not total Visigoths. — after Peter Laarman
Hope may be audacious. President Obama (Hopey) is a politician whose favorite modus operandi is triangulation. The energy for progressive change needs to come from us, just like it did before Obama copped our label.
Let’s sober up. If for no other reason than it’ll confound conservatives, many of whom are total Visigoths.

Huge article by Digby. Obama needs to read it.
Don’t move to the center. Move the center to where you are.
Point out the most obvious examples of extremism and obstructionism as extremism and obstructionism. Call them by their proper names. Challenge the ridiculous claims of the Right to represent anybody close to the mainstream, and show that they only represent corporate lobbyists and teabaggers.
There’s a battle on for the center. Let’s win it with our best friends: mockery, reframing, and resistance.
Our chief weapons are pointing, mockery, reframing, resistance, and pulling the center out from under them. Amongst our weaponry…. But the center is ours. Keep it.

Your guy was nailed to a bunch of wood. Our guy has a hammer. Do the math.
And a followup to yesterday’s post: if you think Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Keith Olbermann will be out of material once Bush slithers off into the sunset, fear not.
And a Thor-mas present for the kiddies.
Io Saturnalia! Merry Christmas! Happy Chanukah! Happy Kaanzaa!! God Jul! Happy Solstice!
Or for those who don’t need an excuse to have fun, salve!

Religious extremist and anti-gay rights activist Rick Warren is scheduled to give the invocation at the Inaugural. You can read about it practically anywhere on the net. Here’s a good place to start.
Money quote:
RICK WARREN, PASTOR, SADDLEBACK CHURCH: I’m opposed to having a brother and sister be together and call that marriage. I’m opposed to older guy marrying a child and calling that a marriage. I’m opposed to one guy having multiple wives and calling that marriage.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You think those are equivalent to gays getting married?
WARREN: I do
Warren’s participation in this inauguration is unacceptable. I’ve written to Executive director Emmett Beliveau of the Presidential Inaugural Committee: emmett@pic2009.org and sent a message at http://change.gov/page/content/contact/.
I’ll be keeping an eye open for other places where we have a chance to be effective. I say we start the pressure now and keep it up until we win.
We do not validate bigotry. We do not compromise with evil. We do not settle for gradual progress. We do not ask former Senator Obama politely. We demand that he take Warren off the program.People are saying they’ll turn their backs on Rick Warren in protest. If Warren is present at the Inaugural in any capacity, I’m turning my back on Barack Obama. He can say whatever he wants in his inaugural address. I won’t be listening.
And we start again and keep it up until we win. When do we win? When Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is repealed, when the Defense of Marriage Act is repealed, when a fully inclusive Employment Non Discrimination Act is signed into law. When marriage equality is the law all across the country and countries that don’t support full equality are treated as pariahs.
Do we look like people who are going to give up?
